CHAIRS
The Chair Period marked a significant evolution in Rosario Guerrero's artistic journey. Disenchanted with the repetitive nature of sketching and painting portraits, Guerrero redirected her focus to the often-overlooked chairs occupied by her subjects. This shift in perspective gave rise to a series of masterfully personified chair oil paintings and intricate metal sculptures. Guerrero’s work in this period is distinguished by its synthesis of Mexican Mesoamerican artistic traditions and European surrealism, creating a dialogue between cultural heritage and avant-garde innovation. These chairs, imbued with character and life, have become some of the most iconic and celebrated elements of her extensive oeuvre.
